I came across a web design company recently. Their website seemed a bit amateurish, but I brushed it off. When I checked their portfolio, it looked really unimpressive. A quick peek at the source code revealed they were using Wix for their designs.
Does it bother anyone else that companies are offering web design services while using platforms like Wix? It wouldn’t be so bad if the websites were well-done, but these ones looked terrible. I feel sorry for clients who paid for what they thought was a professional service.
What are your thoughts? Is it misleading to market yourself as a web developer without writing any code?
I’ve developed customer sites using Wix before, but only because they wanted to be able to utilize it and update it themselves. Wix is user-friendly, and I believe that’s what it is; people want simple content management systems that are both good for SEO and easy to maintain. I like Weebly, but that is just my opinion.
That is absurd. It’s easier said than done, but I believe that educating the clients is crucial. I’m constantly amazed at how ignorant some clients may be about the internet and its possibilities. I would even think about attempting to convince a client like that to sign a contract wherein you split the earnings, whatever you sell it for. I’m wondering about the domain name he owns, but I can understand if you don’t want to reveal it.
