Hey everyone,
I’m 8 months into my first job as a software developer, and I’m still feeling kind of inadequate. People have told me not to be too hard on myself since it hasn’t even been a full year, and that I’m still in the “getting used to it” phase. Maybe they’re right, but I can’t shake the feeling that I rely too much on my co-workers, miss small details, or forget certain steps.
For context, I came into this role after an 8-month bootcamp, and I’m using a language I only learned during that bootcamp. Is it normal to feel this way?

Hey! What you’re feeling is 100% normal, trust me. I’ve been a dev for 4 years now, and I still rely on my team a lot. Software development is a constant learning process, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Keep asking questions and learning from those small mistakes!

You’re not alone in this. Even after a few years in the field, I still have those “am I even good at this?” moments. Don’t stress—it sounds like you’re in the right environment if your coworkers are supportive. You’ll get better at the details with time. The important thing is you’re putting in the effort.

Welcome to imposter syndrome! Honestly, it never really goes away, but it gets easier to manage. Everyone around you probably has similar feelings at different stages, even the seniors. Lean on your coworkers—they’re there to help—and try to enjoy the learning journey.

It sounds like you’re making great progress! 8 months is still super fresh in a new job, especially if you’re using a language you just learned. Missing details or steps is totally fine as long as you’re learning from them. Take it easy on yourself, and just focus on improving a little each day

Coming from a bootcamp and landing a dev job is an achievement in itself! A lot of people struggle even to get their foot in the door, so the fact that you’re already in the game says a lot. Keep asking questions, keep learning, and know that you’re doing better than you think!
