I get it, .webp is efficient but I absolutely hate when I download an image and some software I use does not recognize it properly, so I made this tool for personal use, but made it available in case anyone wants to use it:
It runs on the client so speed may vary. I will work to polish it and support more formats and other tools later. Let me know your feedback!
Edit: To be clear, the converter supports converting into webp as well, including other image formats btw (more to come soon). I just wanted to share my motivation behind it but the project is supposed to cover different scenarios!
Just an idea: Add option to paste link and convert that. So instead of user downloading .webp and choosing that file, they’d just right click picture, copy link, paste link into your website, and that gets converted to jpg that user downloads.
@Parker
Update: I added the first version with link support, it needs further testing, and I need to add support for bulk downloading, but it seems to be mostly working for now!
I love webp. I don’t understand the hate. well, I do understand it but I don’t experience it.
I can always open them. They work for my uses. They are super compact. Never had an issue literally.
But a free conversion app is a great addition to the creative saas commons. Thanks brother

Thanks! It’s more about the freedom of choice, for what is worth, you can also use the tool to convert other formats into webp
Freedom of choice? That’s just moronic. Do you complain about “freedom of choice” when only jpeg or png is available? It’s just an image format, not a religion…
@Sonny
I never said it’s a serious matter, nor am I treating it as a religion lmao. It’s just a converter, you want a png, go for it, you want a webp go for it. It’s good to have a tool available and be able to use whatever you want
@Sonny
Thou shalt format thy photographs according to the A1 section B-27 written by the disciples of Silicon Valley avenue 13, or thou shalt be banished to use Bing for eternity.
