I am thinking about using Java for backend web development instead of PHP. I know Java works well in other areas, but I am not sure how it compares to PHP for backend tasks. Has anyone used Java for this? What are the benefits or challenges compared to PHP?

I have been creating the backend in Java for the previous three years, and it was already decent enough.

Yes. Java is quite prevalent in the backend.
Look at the Spring Framework.

Years back, I switched from PHP to Java as my main language. I have always preferred Java to PHP. I also discovered that good PHP code is extremely similar to good Java code. Best of luck.
