I get that it’s a trend but why do so many websites seem to want to look the same these days? About two-thirds of the sites I’ve checked for products or projects have similar gradient text hero sections. Let’s be a little original.
Because it looks nice, it’s simple, and it works Consumers often prefer what they recognize, not necessarily something unique It’s frustrating but that’s just how it is

Boring websites that make money are better than unique ones no one cares about

Don’t blame the consumers It’s just developers and designers copying something trendy Mindlessly following trends isn’t about users struggling to navigate the web.

It’s not wrong for clients to not care about originality in web design, so no blame there
That was primarily to contrast with the idea that users prefer the familiar Sure, they prefer certain layouts but not everything is about gradients on a flashy background. The reason so many startup pages look like linear.app has more to do with the designers than the users.

Users won’t leave a site just because there’s a gradient on some text
Saying users don’t reject flashy designs doesn’t explain why the trends are happening And this parent comment seemed to suggest users actively want these overdone designs.
@Alton
I remember Facebook’s messenger had gradient headlines back in 2019 That’s when the trend started. It seems designers just copy what the big companies do.

A gradient headline isn’t unique by itself The trend began with this landing page since everyone kept referencing it in development and design discussions while using the same font and layout
@Alton
I don’t like those flashy dark websites They come off as pricey and some sort of trick by designers Just turning simple white pages black and adding shadows seems like a scam.

It works, but some tools and browser settings can mess it up Dark mode features sometimes get the colors wrong since the gradient is in the background rather than the content
@Birch
Yeah, your experimental browser features can warn about breaking sites and actually break some of them

Sure that’s true But it doesn’t change the fact that a user might not recognize the issue if it only happens on a few websites.
It’s also because a lot of templates and components are made like this Many websites just reuse elements.
Is this your first design trend Brace yourself! Also, I can’t stand parallax scrolling.

Hey, parallax can be cool if done well.
