I’ve tried using job sites like Indeed, but I end up getting lots of candidates that don’t fit. I’ve heard Craigslist can be helpful, but I haven’t had much luck there either.
There are many developers looking for work, and I’m uncertain about the best way to connect with them.
I run a small Shopify agency, and we’re in need of someone to head our development efforts. This would mostly involve working with Liquid, TailwindCSS, various JS frameworks like Vue and AlpineJS, building custom Shopify apps, and working with APIs.
I’d prefer someone based in the U.S. who speaks English fluently. Is there a platform or service that could assist me in finding this person?
Every time someone posts about hiring devs, it gets filled with eager commenters looking for work. So, you might find what you need here. Though not sure about the quality from this forum.

I’ve centered at least 3 divs and made plenty of Slack and Netflix clones without real functionality.

That reminds me of a quote from The New Guy
‘You can’t get the developers you want, and the ones you can get… you don’t want.’

The standard really feels low these days. Many developers seem to just want the latest tools to scale to millions of apps, yet don’t know the basics of languages or frameworks, which is amusing.
If possible, hire locally. Bringing someone on remotely can be hard. You often need to be a developer yourself to recognize a legit candidate. Sure, you’ll find out eventually if you hired a fraud, but by then it’s too late and you’ve lost time and money. I once hired through this forum, and out of 50+ applicants, only 3 actually knew how to code.
Are you offering a fair salary? I often see people complaining about this but still wanting to pay low for a senior developer. This might explain why they avoid established platforms like LinkedIn and end up searching here or on Craigslist.
I did post one, but as I mentioned, I was overwhelmed with unqualified applicants, so I took it down. I might just need to improve the vetting process.
I’d like to talk with you since I’m looking for a web developer job. I’ve been out of the loop for about a year and a half now. I’ve been interested in working on Shopify in the way you’re describing.
Let’s set up a meeting. I can show you my dozens of developed stores. You can check all of the live websites. We can discuss plans, workflows, and more. If you like what you see, we can explore working together.
