I built a fun voting site because I was tired of scouring all those blog posts for the best password manager

We’ve all experienced it - searching for the best of something and ending up with numerous blog posts that have totally different opinions

This site allows you to:

  • See questions like ‘What’s the best programming language for beginners’ or ‘What are some great first date ideas’
  • Check out options ranked by actual votes from the community
  • Suggest your own options if you have better ideas
  • Understand why people voted for specific choices
  • Get clear answers instead of marketing fluff

No ads, no affiliate links, no SEO tricks - just real people voting on what they genuinely believe is the best.

I would appreciate any feedback on the project :slight_smile: Bextora.com

The option to add a new choice should prompt you to sign in before showing the form instead of after you’ve already written something. Also, the input field might be a little too small for some questions.

@Drew
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. That’s a great point, I will fix this soon.

@Drew
This is a common issue where you spend time on something only to discover you need to create an account later. It makes you think you might as well do it since you’ve already done the work, which wouldn’t happen if you knew you needed to sign in right from the start.

I usually go to AlternativeTo for app recommendations.

This is awesome, though now I feel like I might have to look through 47 posts on Bextora to find the best password manager. Just kidding, really great platform. Keep it up!

Haha, thank you so much :smiley:

Really cool idea, you might want to consider changing the color scheme to make the navbar and menu pop a bit more. Check this out https://imgur.com/FOYFEbg and consider looking into Lighthouse, good luck!

@Lyric
Thanks for the suggestions, this really means a lot. I should have addressed those errors before launch but I was too excited to hold back haha.

It’s decent but I’m more focused on products and that could use a bit more detail and regular updates. For instance, comparing headphones.

How do you prevent poll manipulation through spam or bots?
How can you fund this to cover server costs so you don’t end up compromising the rankings with ads or sponsorships

I haven’t thought about it too much since this is a passion project. Monetization would just be for server costs, maybe just Google Ads would do the trick. Sponsored options could be an option but I’d label them clearly. For spam and bots, I currently have a system to remove flagged content if necessary, and only verified users can comment, which I hope will help a bit :slight_smile:

I really love this idea. I also dislike sifting through all the paid, outdated, or poorly written content to find the information I need.

Before I make a large purchase, I often create a spreadsheet to compare options. It would be cool if you had a comparison table feature and everyone could update it as new solutions emerge and old ones are phased out, kind of like a Wikipedia of best options.

About the user experience: I looked for a couple of things I currently need and didn’t find anything right away, which is fine, but it took me too long to notice the new bar that appears below the search with status text in gray saying it’s searching or no results were found. Maybe you could make that bar, or the header bar, more prominent or colorful so it’s easier to see.

Regarding design: the current styles are simple but some graphics could add more depth and variety. It would make the site more enjoyable to browse even if I wasn’t looking for anything specific. Perhaps you could have icons or images for categories so it’s easy to see which category a post belongs to from the homepage list. If a specific post becomes popular, you could add an image to better convey the topic quickly for someone scanning the list, or maybe automatically fetch images from free stock photo sites and let users weigh in on whether they’re good or relevant.

Just throwing out some ideas and feedback, take what you like. Good luck with the site!

@Raj
Thank you for the amazing feedback. I’ve made a note of everything and will work on it as soon as possible :slight_smile:

You should definitely have a filter for slurs and a report option available. Sorry, just saying.

You’re right. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll take care of that.

Did you make this from scratch?

I have an idea for a website that I want to create and the layout is somewhat similar to yours. What are you using for the backend?

It looks sleek and straightforward!

I do find the landing page a little busy, but once you explore it, it makes sense :slight_smile:

@Chandler
Hi there :slight_smile: yes, I built it from scratch using AI. My tech stack is Vite, React, and Supabase.

Maybe add categories, tags, or similar questions to the question page. People tend to ask the same things repeatedly just like in any forum I believe x)
