Hey folks, just curious—how many hours a day do you actually spend writing code? And for those who’ve got it down to a science, what’s your secret sauce for getting the most done in less time? Drop your productivity hacks!
I try to get in at least 4-5 solid hours of coding a day, but it’s all about breaks for me. I use the Pomodoro technique—25 mins of focused work, then a 5-minute break. Keeps me sharp and stops burnout!
Productive coding? LOL. I spend more time figuring out what’s broken than actually writing code. But when I do, I stick to the ‘80/20 rule’—get the core functionality done first, and worry about the details later.
I’m a morning person through and through. By the afternoon, my brain starts to slow down, and I find myself getting stuck on simple stuff. I’ve accepted that I’m not cut out for high-pressure, 10x-developer roles. Instead, I save the easier tasks for the afternoons and let my subconscious work on the harder problems while I sleep.
I totally agree with you…Sometimes, the best way to solve a tough problem is to just step away from it. Take a break, do something else, and let your mind work on it in the background. This has worked wonders for me countless times. I’ve even had ideas pop up while running or playing soccer. It’s amazing how the subconscious can solve problems when you’re not actively thinking about them.
Honestly, probably like 3-4 hours max. I like coding late at night—no distractions, just me and my keyboard. Also, I use a to-do list to track progress. Helps me stay on track without wasting time.
