I’ve been at this small company for about a year now, and I’m really starting to feel the weight of it all. I’m juggling backend, frontend, cloud stuff, and even supporting a machine learning unit. It’s a lot, especially with the company being so small and the workload being pretty heavy.
One major issue is the sheer amount of work. I’ve put in over 200 hours in July and August alone, and now they’re asking me to take on even more, like mentoring new developers and handling senior developers who aren’t exactly easy to work with.
The constant pressure, unrealistic deadlines, and lack of appreciation are really wearing me down. I’m feeling burnt out and unmotivated.
I’m thinking of talking to my manager about it, but I’m nervous about how that might go. Any advice on how to handle this and find a better work-life balance? Thanks in advance for your help!
Time to dust off that CV and look for a job where they don’t expect you to work crazy overtime. It usually comes down to poor management, a toxic work culture, or a mix of both. Accepting it just means you’re putting up with being undervalued. I’ve decided I’m not working a minute more than my Monday-to-Friday hours anymore. Family and life are way too important to sacrifice for a company that would replace you in a heartbeat.
I’m with you on this. It’s a good idea to start quietly looking for other job opportunities. At the same time, don’t be afraid to ask for a promotion if you think you deserve one. Even as a junior, it’s important to learn how to have that conversation. If they don’t go for it, at least you’ll have a backup plan ready. A big part of growing in this field is figuring out how to set boundaries and recognize your worth. Use this situation as a learning experience so you can hopefully avoid similar issues in the future.
This isn’t sustainable in the long run. Living like this, stressed out and all about work, isn’t how I’d want to spend my life. It feels like you’re busting your butt just to line the pockets of those above you, while you’re left with barely anything. I’d suggest being honest about how this workload is pushing you to burnout. I get that as a junior, you might want to prove yourself, but sometimes you’ve gotta stand up for yourself and say “no.” And if there’s nothing holding you back, exploring other job options might be worth considering. There are definitely healthier, less toxic workplaces out there.
Heey broo…My advice…Run for the hills before this drains you! I’m all for the start-up hustle and grind for juniors, but it only works if you’re either getting decent compensation (which as a junior, you probably aren’t) or if you’ve got a team that really focuses on your learning rather than just making you churn out hours.
That said, use this experience as fuel for your next opportunity! You’ve done some impressive stuff for a junior, and it seems like you’ve learned a lot (maybe even faster because of the pressure?). So, take that knowledge with you and find a place that’ll appreciate you more
Thank you guys, for real …you do not know how much you have helped me on this…I am gonna have the talk with managment…i feel more confident now, again thanks so much
