This doesn’t look quite right in either Chrome or Firefox for me, it just distorts and disappears without the pixelized dissolve on click. I guess the video at the top of the page is a Duolingo thing rather than an example of what is covered in this tutorial but just thought I’d note it.

Strangely enough I don’t see the effect in Chrome on Windows either, but in Chrome on a Mac it’s there for me, albeit not an exact replica of the X version.

It just disappeared with no effect for me.
Erm. Use judiciously.
As a rule, having buttons disappear when you click them isn’t great UX. Obviously, there are exceptions, so again, use judiciously.

The dissolve effect can be used on other things besides the button.

Well, in the example given they are tags for a search filter. So I would say these are meant to go away when clicking the X inside the tag element?
